Trash Club Mentoring Sessions: Orsola de Castro Recap

February 2024 marked our first mentoring session, kickstarted by Trash Club Member Orsola de Castro. Orsola has been a leading figure in sustainable fashion for the past 20 years. She is the co-founder of Fashion Revolution, the world's largest fashion activism movement and Estethica, the organisation creating agency for change in the fashion industry. In 2021 she published her book 'Loved Clothes Last', providing ways to breathe new life into one's wardrobe.

These workshops are designed to guide independent creatives through the industry, providing insights, advice and opportunities for personal growth based on the shared knowledge of our expert speakers. Participants are invited to bring ideas, work, and questions.

Hosted on Zoom, Orsola took us on a journey through her practice, offering a nuanced understanding of sustainable outcomes, ethical processes and mindful practices. We not only learnt from her, but each participant had a dedicated one-on-one conversation with Orsola to ask questions and discuss their work as she offered points and advice for future development.

“The mentoring call with Orsola de Castro gave me much-needed reassurance that I am on the right path with my creative ideas + pursuits. It was amazing to hear from other like-minded people who are also taking risks like me to break out of the mould to pursue paths unknown and make a difference with sustainability in mind, and hearing Orsola’s personal advice was super motivating and encouraging to keep going even if it’s a more difficult career path :)”
