Top Opp of the Week: Sarabande

Artist Studio London Residency 2024/25

Sarabande are now accepting applications for the 2024/2025 Sarabande Studio Residency Programme, with 10 days left to apply (deadline 1st August). 

Sarabande offers one of the most affordable studio programmes in London, with spaces ranging from 50 to 350 square feet, priced at just £1 per square foot per month. This includes utilities, use of communal spaces, and professional services. The locations include a Grade II-listed Victorian stable-block conversion in Haggerston, and a sister site—comprising two Grade II-listed Georgian townhouses—stands on Tottenham’s High Road. Both sites have 24-hour access, forming a creative community with designers and artists from multiple disciplines.

Lee Alexander McQueen CBE established Sarabande with the ambition to support the most creatively fearless minds of the future. Sarabande looks for individuals with a unique vision and a dedication to their craft. To date, Sarabande has nurtured over 250 artists and designers, each with unique approaches, disciplines and backgrounds.

Dotwalk Ajitara Art Residency: Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice Residency invites visual artists from India for a two-month residency programme. Located in the sprawling farmhouse of the Ajitara family in New Delhi, India, Dotwalk Ajitara Art Residency aims to create a space that brings together diverse individuals and disciplines, fostering artistic exploration, education and community. They strive to inspire and empower all who enter our doors while promoting cultural understanding and embracing innovation. Their core principles include celebrating diversity in the arts, encouraging creative growth, facilitating collaborative exchange and promoting an environment of openness and progress, focusing specifically on contemporary painting and drawing practices.

Radio28 Creative Studios

Radio28 Creative Studios is a Mexico City-based residency that aims to bring creatives together to foster new ideas and cultivate experimentation and life-long communities. After you have been selected for the program, you will have to pay a registration fee of 5,000MXN from the total fee of the program. The second payment, 7,000 MXN, must be paid after the interview stage. The third payment, 10,000 MXN, will be paid on the first day of the program..

The Adobe Creative Residency at The Victoria & Albert Museum

Each resident will receive studio space, mentorship, resources, and staff expertise.

Mall Galleries x Crinan Hotel Residency

The Federation of British Artists at Mall Galleries and the Crinan Hotel presents the Crinan Residency – a week-long artistic retreat for a recent graduate in the heart of historic Scotland from 18 to 25 September 2024. Open to any 2024 graduate from either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in fine arts at a UK college or fine arts learning programme (please note that Foundation Diploma courses are not eligible).

Casco: Contemporary Art Residency in Rural Brazil

The residency is intended for artists interested in developing research, collaborative, and socially engaged art practices in the context of Pós-Balsa. This region is part of the Environmental Protection Area (EPA) of Riacho Grande, established to protect the Atlantic Forest ecosystems and the water quality of the Billings Reservoir, which supplies water to the state of São Paulo. Bringing together curators, environmentalists, and local educators, the residency invites participating artists to conduct investigations connected to the territory and the local community. The residency is open to visual artists of all countries and ages, preferably those interested in participatory processes.

nProjekt & Tangent Projects: Barcelona - Hong Kong

The Barcelona to Hong Kong Exchange Programme is a collaborative initiative between nProjekt & Tangent Projects to promote cultural exchange and artistic collaboration between Barcelona-based media artists and the vibrant art scene in Hong Kong. Open to all Barcelona metropolitan area-based media artists, regardless of nationality, age or stage of career. The programme will provide a selected artist with a unique opportunity to present a series of artworks alongside local Hong Kong artists, immerse themselves in a unique Asian environment and develop their artistic practice within a specific cultural context.

Trash Club: Behind The Bins Blog

Trash Club is looking for journalists and writers to submit any pieces they may have written or would like to write. We ask that it follows the themes of our pillars, C-R-A-P, and all that we stand for as a community of independent creatives. Please apply via our website or send us an email.

FASE

Open to young photographers under 35 (born in 1988 or later) interested in gaining experience in the world of NGOs, humanitarian aid, and development cooperation. The portfolio theme must align with one of the following topics: social justice, climate justice, human rights, or the rights of marginalised individuals or communities. To participate in the Open Call, you must submit a portfolio of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 photographs, which should demonstrate internal narrative coherence.

The winner of the FASE Open Call 2024 will have the opportunity to receive a commission from WeWorld, valued at 1,000 euros, plus coverage of flights and/or transportation. The work will involve creating photographic documentation in one of the 26 countries where WeWorld operates, in Europe and around the world.

Diasporas Now: Turner Contemporary x PDC x PRAH Recordings

In partnership with Turner Contemporary, Margate-based community organisation People Dem Collective (PDC), expanded performance platform Diasporas Now, and PRAH Recordings are seeking proposals from global majority-identifying artists at the intersection of music, performance art, dance, and other audiovisual performance-based practices. It seeks primarily sound-based interpretations of the ethos of improvisation, intuition and experimentation to nurture alternative cultural discourses. Two artists will be selected and invited to perform at Movements from the Margins, part of Turner Contemporary’s late night Turner Lates events series, on Friday 30 August 2024. Selected artists will receive a week-long funded residency at PRAH Recordings in Margate in 2025, including complimentary on-site accommodation and access to fully equipped music recording studios.

Omni Art Gallery: Inside Out Virtual Exhibition

Omi Art Gallery is excited to announce a new open call for our upcoming virtual exhibition, “Inside Out.” They are inviting artists from around the world to submit their works that explore the theme of “Inside Out,” delving into the depths of inner experiences and outward expressions. They are looking for artworks that capture the essence of introspection, personal identity, emotional landscapes, and how these internal states manifest in the physical world. Open to Emerging and established artists from all over the world. All visual art media are welcome, including painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, and mixed media.​

Awards + Prizes

The World Around: 2025 Young Climate Prize and Mentorship Programme

Applications are open for this award and mentorship programme. The aim is to support the generation of designers and activists who were born into the climate crisis and positioned to address it. 25 individuals will be selected (must be under 25 years old) and paired and mentored by a Design Champion, a group of world renowned designers. Each mentee will have 3 hour-long sessions to amplify their projects and come up with new ideas. The group will also embark on a Design Academy. The programme is free and there will 3 winners are the end, who will be selected to their work at The World Around’s annual summit in New York City, April 2025.

The Mallorca International Art Awards

The Mallorca International Art Awards (MIAA) celebrate Mallorcan artists or those with close ties to the island for their outstanding contemporary art. This open call is addressed to visual artists and collectives of any nationality or origin, 18 years and above on the date of the application with significant ties to the island. Those who present these characteristics may apply to one or both categories equally. Recipients receive €6,000 for the Acquisition Prize and an individual exhibition. €12,500 for the Project Prize towards creating a project and its exhibition.

Arte Laguna Prize

In its 19th year, this annual prize is open to artists and designers working in painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video and films, performance and acting, digital art, digital graphics, cartoons, environmental and land art, street art, and design. One winner will receive €10,000 and an exhibition. Entry fees range from €97.60 to €122.

Sony World Photography Awards

Open to photographers worldwide shooting on any device; this contest includes top prizes of $25,000, a solo exhibition in London, Sony digital imaging equipment, press and media coverage, and more.

Grand Plan

Have you got a Grand Plan? Grand Plan is a charity awarding £1,000 grants to people of colour based in the UK who want to bring a new creative project to life. They support creativity in all its forms, including poetry, paintings, fashion, zines, music, food, flowers, photographs, workshops, events or something else completely. To apply, you need to identify as Black, Asian, Brown and/or part of the Global Majority aged 18 or over and based in the UK.
