Trash Club Shanghai x BEAMBAGS Event!

On the 6th of May , we held our DIY accessories event!

Trash Club Shanghai host, Sophie Ruane joined a BEAMBAGS event, organised by Senzi Education. They are a community that advocates for hair and culture in the city. The main event had several amazing hair stylists and funky creatives that were based in Shanghai, demonstrating live hair tutorials.

Trash Club and Soup Archive contributed a smaller activity stall by creating an opportunity for visitors to make accessories. People used bits and bobs that had been sourced in Shanghai. This included discarded items, materials collected around the city, some fabric from Guangzhou market. In the Guangzhou market, they sell lots of off-cuts, smalls amounts or damaged materials. The tools made to make the unique accessories were purchased from a local independent store: needles, threads, and scissors. No sewing skill was necessary for the visitors to create their hair accessories because we also the option to use tape or rope, tying things together.

We had a number of lovely people that attended from the creative industry all over the world. We met a makeup artist and a fashion designer from China, a photographer visiting from Belgium and a hairdresser from Italy. It was amazing to see so many people join and celebrate their hair and creative styles. It gave us all an opportunity to discuss our passions within our Shanghai community. There aren’t a lot of opportunities for us all to meet, so it was great to get out and be creative. With repurposing and collaboration in mind, it made the space relaxed and open. We all had the chance to chill, play and create something physical that we could take away from the session to wear in our everyday!

It was a great, successful event and we can’t wait until we have another one soon!
